In 2022, a group of second homeowners called Tahoe Energy Ratepayers Group (TERG) eliminated caps on local electricity rates, forcing higher costs onto Tahoe families, workers, and those on fixed incomes. Now, they’re trying to silence Tahoe Spark, the nonprofit fighting for fair rates, by blocking our participation in the current rate-setting process.
Liberty’s proposed changes will double electricity costs compared to 2020–2024 rates, hitting locals hard during an affordability crisis. Meanwhile, second homeowners and short-term rentals increase demand and wildfire risks but avoid paying their fair share.
